New Music: Toy & Natasha Khan- The Bride (Amir Rassaei cover)

English shoegaze band Toy have hooked up with indie pop chanteuse Natasha Khan, aka Bat For Lashes, to re-work an Iranian wedding song into a psych rock masterpiece. "The Bride"is a retitled  cover of the song "Aroos Khanom", which was originally recorded by Iranian artist "Amir Rassaei"

The track has been translated to English using the beautiful vocals of Khan and will appear in limited edition 7" on July 1st. The song was produced by Dan Carey (Franz Ferdinand) who has also put together a compilation album of Iranian psych music titled Zendooni: Funk, Psychedelia and Pop from the Iranian Pre-Revolution Generation. It will be released on the same day as the single on his new label Speedy Wunderground. Listen to the track below:

No Joy Release A Little Bit Of Happiness + Other New Music & News

Montreal indie gazing band No Joy seems to have done a 180 degree sound shift on this new track off of their forthcoming new album. There is still a hint of shoegaze, but they have traded in their wall of sound grunge for  much cleaner sounding dream pop- at least it sounds that way on their new track "Lunar Phobia".

The band were originally supposed to record their new LP, Wait To Pleasure, with the Raveonettes Sune Rose Wagner, but that never materialized and No Joy decided to work with Jorge Elbrecht (Chairlift). The result is a lot more keyboard and pianos, much cleaner production and an overall much more happier sounding group. At this rate they may have to change their name. Listen to "Lunar Phobia" below:

Lots of new music, videos and news from the first few days of the week including:

New Music: Bat For Lashes- All Your Gold

How much do we love Bat for Lashes here at the Aural Report. So much, that if Natasha Khan released a song a day we would post them all.  Natasha has been pretty busy lately and has just come out with another track, All Your Gold, from her highly anticipated upcoming album The Haunted Man.  The song is more poppier than the two previous releases, Laura and Marilyn,  and as Stereogum pointed out it sounds similar to Gotye...sigh. Listen to the song below.

The Haunted Man is out on October 23rd via Capitol or October 15th via Parlophone/EMI depending on which side of the pond you live on.

New Music: Bat for Lashes- Marilyn

Of all of the records coming out this autumn, the Bat For Lashes album The Haunted Man is the one I am most looking forward to. After releasing the debut single, Laurain August, Natasha Khan has come back with a synth pop second single titled Marilyn. Miss Khan loves to name her songs after people's first names and Marilyn is the latest track in a group that includes Prescilla, Sarah, Daniel, and Laura. I hope these people are not all of her friends or they might be demanding royalties. (Although, Marilyn is supposedly written about deceased movie starlet Marilyn Monroe.)

New Music: Bat For Lashes- Laura + video

English songstress Bat for Lashes (Natasha Khan) is back with a new song and new album. The first single is called Laura and is a slow piano ballad with poignant lyrics addressed to a friend. The song seems to be written about Natasha consoling her friend for being lonely after living an empty lifestyle. This song continues Bat for Lashes string of naming singles after people. The others being Prescilla off of her debut album Fur and Gold and Daniel off of the follow up album Two Suns. She seems to have a habit of writing songs that are very personal and dear to her heart.

The new album is called The Haunted Man and will be released on October 23rd in North America. Some people have made a fuss about the album artwork and have labeled it NSFW because Natasha appears on the cover semi-nude. Natasha has never shied away from doing somewhat risque photo shoots as illustrated in this Fader Magazine feature from 2009.

Risque photo shoots aside, I swear that this girl has the most beautiful big brown eyes I have ever seen and this is more than accentuated in the first few seconds of the video for Laura. I could probably fall in love with this girl in a heartbeat. The video features an actor who just might be badass movie actor Terence Stamp reprising his role as Bernadette from the movie The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.
