New Music: Coves- Cast A Shadow

Up and coming U.K. psych pop band Coves are back with a new (old) song and details of a new album. The new single is called "Cast A Shadow"and is a tune that swoons with psychedelic haze. Actually, this may be the first time I have posted a song twice because Coves already came out with a video for "Cast a Shadow" way back in 2012 (That video has been made private) and it was featured on this blog. The song is so good that it needs to be featured again. Check out the latest video for the track below:

The band will release their debut album Soft Friday on March 31st in Britain and hopefully later in the year in North America.

New Music: Coves- Wicked Game (Chris Issak Cover)

Chris Issak's Wicked Game was a guilty pleasure when I was growing up. Not only was it a really beautiful, haunting song, but the music video with a half naked Helena Christensen running around on an exotic beach made for a pre-internet treat, with MuchMusic playing it in heavy rotation.

There have been a number of covers of Wicked Game over the years and now British band Coves have taken the track and turned it into a dreamy, psychedelic haze of guitars, building on the haunting beauty of the original song. Listen to the track below:

Coves play an ATP show at the Sebright Arms in London on October 29th. Coincidentally, Chris Isaak plays Massey Hall in Toronto on the same night.

New Music: Coves- No Ladder (Toy Remix) + Cast A Shadow

New British duo Coves have only been around for a year and they have already garnered some serious attention from BBC tastemakers Zane Lowe, Huw Stephens, Don Letts and Lauren Laverne. The pair have also been handpicked to support Echo & the Bunnymen on their upcoming tour.

Coves released a brilliant EP last May titled Cast A Shadow. Their sound has a definite 60's influence and can be best described as indie rock that is awash with psychedelic swirls.  One of the tracks on the EP, No Ladder, has been re-mixed by another one of Britain's best up and coming bands, Toy, who we featured on the blog last month.

Download the re-mix for No Ladder below and watch the music video for the title track of the EP.

The EP for Cast A Shadow is available to stream on Soundcloud. You can also purchase the EP from iTunes.

The re-mix of No Ladder will be released on October 8th via Cross Key Records.
