New Music: Coves- Cast A Shadow

Up and coming U.K. psych pop band Coves are back with a new (old) song and details of a new album. The new single is called "Cast A Shadow"and is a tune that swoons with psychedelic haze. Actually, this may be the first time I have posted a song twice because Coves already came out with a video for "Cast a Shadow" way back in 2012 (That video has been made private) and it was featured on this blog. The song is so good that it needs to be featured again. Check out the latest video for the track below:

The band will release their debut album Soft Friday on March 31st in Britain and hopefully later in the year in North America.

New Music: Temples- Mesmerise

After releasing a couple of great songs in "Keep in the Dark" and "Colours to Life" earlier this year it was about time for UK psych rockers Temples to announce a new album. Last week was that moment and the band came out with the first single from the LP titled "Mesmerise". In the past Temples have been compared to 70's glam rocker T. Rex, but this song sounds more modern and maybe can be best likened to Tame Impala or Pond. Check it out below:

The new album is titled Sun Structures and will be available February 11th via Fat Possum.

Here is singer James Bagshaw and his band Temples channeling T. Rex again with their awesome new single titled "Keep in the Dark." Pretty cool accompanying video, as well. Watch and listen below:

New Music: MGMT- Your Life Is A Lie + Music Video

"Your Life Is a Lie is the first preview from psych pop band MGMT new LP. Maybe we should start calling their music freak psych because their songs are starting to sound more and more like The Flaming Lips with every new release.  Watch the video for the song below which is just as strange as the music.

MGMT will release their new self titled album September 17th via Columbia.

New Music: Mazzy Star- California

I am so excited by the news that we are finally getting a new Mazzy Star album. This announcement comes on the heels of surprise new releases from My Bloody Valentine, David Bowie, Beck, Nine Inch Nails….2013 has been a very good year for reunions and comebacks.

Mazzy Star did release a single in 2011 titled “Common Burn", but now we get news of their first long player in 17 years. The album is titled Seasons of Your Day and will be out September 24th.

Hope Sandoval sounds better than ever on “California", a beautiful acoustic dream pop track that is the first taste of the new album. Listen below:

New Music: Temples- Colours To Life + Music Video

British psych pop band Temples have the whole T. Rex look down down pat -singer James Bagshaw even looks exactly like Marc Bolan. A favourite of Noel Gallagher, Temples music is being compared   not so much to T. Rex, but more toward Australian psych band Tame Impala. Listen to the swooning, mellotron infused "Colours to Life" below.

New Music: Pikelet- Pressure Cooker

Australia has a nice little scene making waves in North America right now. There is everything from psych rock bands (Tame Impala, Pond) to indie pop bands (Twerps, Beaches) that are getting plenty of hype in this part of the world and now you can add former Australian music short list nominee Pikelet to that list.

Pikelet's music sounds somewhere between the former and the latter of the aforementioned bands above. Listen to their latest track "Pressure Cooker" below:

Music Video: Melody's Echo Chamber- Some Time Alone, Alone

Nice of Melody's Echo Chamber to release a video for their beautiful dreamy track "Some Time Alone, Alone" to remind us how good their self titled album from last year really was.

The clip features the beautiful singer Melody Prochet spending some time alone at an amusement park. Watch above.

New Music: Vinyl Williams- Open Your Mind

LA based psychedelic musician Vinyl Williams is quickly become one of my favourite new artists of 2012. Of course, I do have music ADD and that may change tomorrow, but that doesn't belittle the fact that this guy is good. I've already written a lot about Williams so there is no need to introduce him again-you can read more through my posts on his earlier singles, Higher World and Harmonious Change here and here- but I did learn something new about the artist today. According to The Guardian he is the grandson of Oscar winning composer John Williams (Star Wars). Cool!

Open Your Mind is the third track to be featured from Williams' forthcoming album, Lemniscate and probably the most sullen and dreamy. The beautiful track warbles for a couple of minutes before morphing into an M83 like three minute ambient fade out. Listen below

New Music: Vinyl Williams- Higher Worlds+ Music Video

Back in September, we first profiled Los Angeles based psych rock artist Vinyl Williams and his brilliant single Harmonious Change, which will be part of his re-released 2011 album Lemniscate. Now Wiiliams has come out with another track from the album titled Higher Worlds and an accompanying music video. Unlike the first single, this track features simple guitars backed by a krautrock machine gun beat.

The music video features various religious symbols and Williams made the video look antiquated by passing VHS filters over 3D animation. Watch and listen below:

New Music: Vinyl Williams- Harmonious Change

Vinyl Williams, aka Lionel Williams, is a L.A. based psych pop prophet who makes tripped out layers mixed with interweaving melodies that will have you reaching for the stars after one listen. Williams is offering up a free download of the track Harmonious Change which will be included as a bonus track on the CD version of his album Lemniscate. The album will be re-released on November 13th on Williams' own label Salonislam. In honour of his first name I recommend you buy the vinyl record.

New Music: Melody's Echo Chamber- I Follow You + Music Video

Way back on July 17th The Aural Report introduced new artist Melody's Echo Chamber which features French singer Melody Prochet and production from Tame Impala singer/guitarist Kevin Parker.

After releasing a split 7 inch with New Zealand indie rockers Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Melody's Echo Chamber are on to bigger and better things and she has just come out with a new single plus accompanying music video for I Follow You. The chilled track is perfect for a summer day with heavy synth textures and a slow meandering guitar that edges toward an Tame Impala-esque psychedelic guitar swirl at the very end.

The LSD inspired music video for I Follow You stars Melody taking a dip in a pool with a backdrop of psychedelic palettes, wild horses and a tiger lurking in the background. Watch the video below.

Melody's Echo Chamber is playing selected North American cities with The Raveonettes through late September and early October including a show at The Phoenix in Toronto on October 2nd. Check your local listings for all  tour dates.

New Band: Melody's Echo Chamber

Melody's Echo Chamber is a psych pop band fronted by French artist Melody Prochet and is under the stewardship of Tame Impala lead singer/guitarist Kevin Parker. Parker's influence is all over this song, However, it could easily be classified as dream pop when Prochet's beautiful voice is added into the equation.
The band will be releasing a split 7" single for their song Crystallized along with Unknown Mortal Orchestra's cover of the below song. The single is available on July 31st via Fat Possum Records
The debut album from Melody's Echo Chamber will be available on September 25th.
