Always good to hear from Toronto's most famous artist collective Broken Social Scene, even though they are supposed to be broken up. Let's just say they are semi-retired and whenever one of their friends has an anniversary they get back together for the party. In this case it's the band's record label Arts & Crafts who are celebrating their 10th anniversary this year with a compilation of songs from the label's group of artists and the Field Trip Festival, a special concert in the heart of downtown Toronto featuring BSS, Feist, Bloc Party, Ra Ra Riot and more.
"Deathcock" is one of BSS"s contributions to the album, Arts & Crafts 2003-2013, and despite the song's name, it is a really good representation of what the band sounded like when they were at the height of their career. Beautiful, sprawling, 7 minutes worth of joyous noise. The song was recorded as part of the You Forget it in People sessions and is already included on the 2004 BSS b-side compilation album Beehives.
